about

One of my more worshipful songs, written lyrics first, then music. I think I just sat down to write the music, just as a matter of discipline. I had no inspiration, did not necessarily want to write, but I did have the time. God blesses this kind of effort. The song is proof. Interestingly, the endeavor turned from one of discipline to one of joyful praise.
Melody, Nathaniel and I sat down to record scratch tracks and ended up keeping the drums and acoustic guitar (not the best technically but a “good take that peeks through at the right times” – to quote Chris Kress). It was the 614 recorded direct. The keys were good but we decided to rerecord them in stereo to give them a little more presence (spread them out in the sound field). When Chris and Cullin came over one evening to record other stuff, Cullin was asking for a simple song so he could goof around on the Boss pedalboard. This was the only song I had ready for any kind of lead recording so I just got it playing. Cullin was on a roll so I scrambled to get him set up to record. Chris was going to try something on bass when Cullin was done, but I encouraged him to just start playing while Cullin was playing. I scrambled a bit to get the gear set up to record and when I finally pressed record, they laid the bass and lead down simultaneously in one take. Just a lesson that you gotta go with your gut sometimes. It just turned out phenomenal. LS and MH recorded harmonies on this. That seems to make the most sense since the lyric is “’we’ love you Lord.” Thanks for doing such a great job on this Lynn and Melody. Wow.

lyrics

Verse 1
In the time of pain You make Your presence known
You send help though the tempests toss
In the time of pain we sing You’re holy
In the time of pain we know we’re safe

Chorus
We love You Lord with all of our heart
We love You Lord with all of our soul
With all of our mind
With all of our strength
We love You Lord

Verse 2
In the time of joy You make all of our plans succeed
Our longing hearts will overflow
In the time of joy we see Your glory
In the time of joy we know Your peace

Chorus
We love You Lord with all of our heart
We love You Lord with all of our soul
With all of our mind
With all of our strength
We love You Lord (We love You Lord)

Chorus
We love You Lord with all of our heart
We love You Lord with all of our soul
With all of our mind
With all of our strength
We love You Lord (We love You Lord)
