Wow. I did not expect to be putting this song on an album. It is so personal. I remember vividly the night I wrote it. It was one of the many nights I found myself awake, unable to sleep, with my heart pounding and uneasy. I wrote the lyrics in a cry out to God. Why was I going through this? Why could I not sleep? Interestingly, I was playing the piano a lot at that time and it seemed fit the song better. I mean, playing piano takes me away from the comfortable place that is playing the guitar, and it seemed to reflect the discomfort I was experiencing in other areas of life.
TH-Korg keyboard and vocal. Chris and Cullin heard the sparse arrangement of this and agreed that it needed to remain simple. It was their idea to add the spoken section, the laughter, and the drums (heartbeats) (NH). The vocal is so up front here, again a somewhat uncomfortable place for me.
lyrics
Verse 1
Black holes, my eyes, body on the way
I’m guessing as the time flies, nothing quite like the heyday
Verse 2
Lucky souls, sleeping, why am I this way?
Looking in another room, sleeping like a baby
Chorus
Just wondering why, just wondering why
Until I find my rest in You, seeking finding certain breath
I’ll be racing, throttle full, not my name but Yours be blessed
Verse 3
Trembling will you fly? Only time has wings
Sleep carry me away, question notwithstanding
Verse 4
Quiet hours, sighing, won’t you say good night?
Second hand, unwinding, [Racing, racing throttle full] sighing now I’m crying [not my name but Yours be blessed]
[Trembling will you fly? Only time has wings
Sleep carry me away, question notwithstanding]
[Quiet hours, sighing, won’t you say good night?
Second hand, unwinding, sighing now I’m crying (laughter)]
[Is it for an aged offense, I reap now what I’ve sown?
Maybe Oz, no picket fence, when rather I’d be home?]
Bridge
Is it for an aged offense, I reap now what I’ve sown?
Maybe Oz, no picket fence, when rather I’d be home?
Chorus
Just wondering why, just wondering why
Until I find my rest in You, seeking finding certain breath
I’ll be racing, throttle full, not my name but Yours be blessed
[Is it for an aged offense, I reap now what I’ve sown?
Maybe Oz, no picket fence, when rather I’d be home?]
