about

Practically wrote the entire song on the fly while I was goofing around in the family room. Got a quick recording that I revisited after a few months and it was done. Short and to the point. When we recorded this song, it was a true one-taker. Nathaniel, Jimmy and I went over it once or twice, set the gear to record, and then got a recording with a great vibe. I was planning to discard the vocal (using it only as a reference vocal) but we all liked it well enough so we used it as it was recorded with that first take. We overdubbed the lead guitar.

Jimmy used Melody’s Epiphone bass on a clean amp setting and cabinet emulation (XLR output off bass amp), NH-drums using the 4-mic setup (Shure Beta 52 on kick, Audix D2 on snare, 2 pencil condensers for overheads). TH-Les Paul Standard with light compression and clean amp for rhythm guitar, TH-Baden direct to add some sparkle, CK-lead. TH vocals were recorded with the Nuemann mic through the magic vocal box and then direct into the interface.

lyrics

Verse 1
Another day, another dollar
You call that living out loud?
What color is your collar?
Most likely something you’ll write home and tell your mom about

Chorus
I’m gone
I’m gone
Don’t try to convince me I’m the one in the wrong
I’m gone

Verse 2
Another word of wisdom
Is this all you’ve got to say?
Just get out there you gotta get some
Surely you know one way or ‘nother I’ll pay, so

Chorus
I’m gone I’m gone
I’m gone I’m gone

Bridge
It’s not that working is cheap
Or life in general is insignificant
It’s just I don’t want to be consumed in a
World where pleasure and profit is king, so

Chorus
I’m gone
I’m gone
I’m gone
I’m gone
Don’t try to convince me I’m the one in the wrong
I’m gone
