about

Anna came in one evening while I was noodling around on a chord progression and said, “I have a poem that might go with your music.” I was happy to take a look at it. Turns out it went really well, but the poem was a little short, so I asked if she had written anything else. Just so happened that she had another short poem that worked perfectly for the tag. Love this song. We recorded it previously at the studio and I felt we did too much with it, made it too complicated, so we tried to simplify it this time.

Tom played the Taylor 614 (the guitar that started it all) direct and with a Rode NT1A simultaneously, Melody played the Korg, recorded at the same time as the guitar. Nathaniel added drums (4 mics, etc.) over the guitar, keys, and a scratch vocal. Amazing how he did that. The song isn’t exactly on a click track. Tom, using the T5, painstakingly added a simple lead part. Melody recorded harmonies on this one, tough job because of the varied timing.

lyrics

Verse 1
Tainted is the world we’re in
All the beauty somewhat washed away by the devious sin

Interlude
Sad to see the world this way

Verse 2
Many here who are quiet and lost
Many loved both friends and kin
They don’t know who paid the cost
To cleanse them all from within

Chorus
Sad to see the world this way
When we know of His glory shown
In the coming glorious day
When we see our king on the throne
Sad to see the world this way

Verse 2
Many here who are quiet and lost
Many loved both friends and kin
They don’t know who paid the cost
To cleanse them all from within

Chorus
Sad to see the world this way
When we know of his glory shown
In the coming glorious day
When we see our king on the throne
Sad to see the world this way
