about

A true rock ballad (I think -- not that I'm an expert in rock music), written lyrics first, then melody.

We all live in the trenches. My desire is to hear God say I did well. And that He would be pleased.

TH-Les Paul, compression, gain, middle switch position, volume and tone full on recorded direct from pedal board to computer. I was going to rerecord the rhythm guitar but when I recorded a 2nd rhythm part at the beginning and middle of the song, the layers added another dimension, so I kept both tracks. Especially in the beginning, it feels like crossfire. MH-Korg keys reed setting 23, NH-drums, Chris Kress on bass. While Chris was doing a preliminary recording to get levels, it dawned on me that the clean settings on the Line 6 Low Down Studio 110 amp were just too nice for this song. I went over and pushed the “Grind” button and it worked, yes bass with a little distortion. We sent the signal direct out of the amp (using the amp as a direct box). When Chris and Cullin heard this, they felt it really didn’t need a lead (keys were doing an interesting lead-like thing and the song is more vocal, plus we have Melody’s synth later in the song). We still haven't been able to figure out where the synth in the beginning of the song came from.

lyrics

Verse 1
Caught in the crossfire I can hardly breathe
But a friend is in the trenches and I just can't let him bleed
I guess there are two simple words that make the risk and fear
A little less important Words I've got to hear

Chorus
Well done my good and faithful servant
Well done blessed child of the Son
With joy please enter in
Well done my beloved one

Verse 2
Bullets rip passed me the enemy closes in
If I make a wrong move it could be a bitter end Headlong into battle I will not shed a tear
The gates of hell are falling and I expect to hear

Chorus
Well done my good and faithful servant
Well done blessed child of the Son
With joy please enter in
Well done my beloved one

Bridge
I want to hear You call my name and say
That the things I've done have pleased You all along the way
This world is quickly passing I want you Lord to say

Chorus
Well done my good and faithful servant
Well done blessed child of the Son
With joy please enter in
Well done my beloved one

Chorus
Well done my good and faithful servant
Well done blessed child of the Son
With joy please enter in
Well done my beloved one
